Credentials live in RAM only
App passwords sit in an in-process map for the life of the job and nowhere else — not in the database, not in a log line, not on disk. They are wiped on completion, on failure, and by any restart.

Messages stream host to host
Mail moves source provider → destination provider. MailMule never writes message bodies to disk, never indexes them, and never reads them beyond the IMAP metadata needed to copy a folder.

Transfer records expire in 7 days
A small record — folder names, counts, and the UID map that makes rollback exact — is kept so you can undo. A daily job scrubs it after 7 days. Then there is nothing left to leak.

Passkey sign-in, revocable passwords
Your MailMule account uses a passkey, not a password to steal. Your mailbox access uses an app-specific password you can revoke at your provider the moment the move is done.

FAQ
Questions worth answering honestly.
Do I need an app password?
Most providers require an app-specific password instead of your regular login once you connect a third-party tool. MailMule shows a walkthrough with a direct link to generate one for your provider before you type anything in.
Does this work with Outlook or Hotmail?
Business and Microsoft 365 accounts work well. Personal outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com and msn.com accounts may reject app passwords, since Microsoft phased out basic authentication for consumer mail. MailMule warns you up front, and you can still try.
How long does a transfer take?
It depends on mailbox size and both providers' rate limits: typically minutes for a few thousand messages, up to a few hours for tens of gigabytes. Progress is live — folders, messages, bytes and an ETA — and you can close the tab; the job keeps running on the server.
Is it safe to hand over my email password?
Your credentials are held in server memory only for the duration of the transfer — never written to the database, logs or disk. The moment the job ends, or the server restarts, they are gone. MailMule only recommends app-specific passwords, which you can revoke independently at any time.
Can I undo a transfer?
Yes. For 7 days after a transfer you can roll it back — MailMule deletes exactly the messages it appended to the destination, nothing else. After 7 days the transfer record is purged and rollback is no longer available.
